The cafe is one of the Karhupuisto-places. Karhupuisto is a beautiful park and popular with both locals and tourists. There are about twenty outdoor seats in the cafe. Open from the beginning of April till the end of September, but might be closed in case of rain or bad weather.

open: Mon-Sat 9:00am - 10:00pm, Sun 12:00pm - 10:00pm

Café dtm is a popular meeting place for all kinds of people. Coffee and tea drinks as well as savoury and sweet dishes are served. Also, there are two computers with Internet access for customer use free of charge, and you can get the WLAN password from the staff.

FAIRYTALE (HELSINGINKATU 7)

Fairytale is a local bar next to Sörnäinen underground station. What the bar lacks in size, it gains in its intensive atmosphere. Customers are mostly locals and older men. Entrance note: You might need to ring the doorbell to get in.

RAVINTOLA FENIX (EERIKINKATU 14)

Located in the city centre on Eerikinkatu. The music and atmosphere make the bar a perfect place note only to kick back after a hard day’s work but also to kick-start your weekend nights on the town.

Hugo’s Room opened in June 2009. The bar’s stylish cocktail lounge décor is accompanied by a stimulating drink list. Hugo’s Room opens quite early and is a popular after-work bar.

open: Sun-Thu 2:00pm - 2:00am, Fri-Sat 2:00pm - 4:00am

The bar is a speciality in its own field. This cosy bar might have a bit older clientele, but there’s always good a possibility to strike a nice conversation. Karaoke is by far the bar’s biggest attraction and the extensive song list is well matched by the quality of some of the singers.

On the first Saturday of each month, Mann’s Street arranges a bar-dance where you get the chance to show your well-crafted moves and boss the dance floor with your authentic version of “karhunjenkka” (a version of the traditional 19th century polka).

NALLE PUB (KAARLENKATU 3-5)

Nalle Pub is found next to Karhupuisto. Together with Bear Park Cafe and Fairytale, they make the gay bar heart of Kallio–the perfect reason to visit the district. Nalle Pub is the largest of the three and has the biggest clientele as well (mostly +30y. local couples and women).

GAY NIGHTCLUB HERCULES (LÖNNROTINKATU 4B)

open: Mon-Sun 9:00am - 4:00am

True to its name, Hercules is a big and masculine nightclub. It’s located in the very centre of the city and is fairly popular throughout the week–however, on weeknights the going won’t get too rough. The male-orientation of the club shows in its male-dominant clientele and testosterone-fuelled atmosphere–should be easy to find people to chat to.
